JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel
A contemporary expression of Romanian craft, developed at hotel scale.
Bucharest, Romania · Hospitality · 2018
For JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel, Conceptiones developed and delivered an extensive artwork programme across the property. Appointed directly by the international company responsible for the hotel fit-out, whose identity remains confidential, we served as final artwork contractor.
The programme brought together more than 1,600 ceramic works, framed compositions, museum-quality art prints and original paintings for guest rooms, suites, shared spaces and the VIP Lounge.

The brief
Create a coherent artwork language that could operate across hundreds of individual rooms while retaining the character, material presence and variation of work made by hand. Beyond the guest accommodation, the programme also required original paintings, fine art prints and other artistic elements for shared and private spaces.
A system made by hand
Conceptiones proposed the ceramic concept and developed it as a modular family of framed panel compositions. Each room contained at least four individual ceramic works, bringing the total to more than 1,600 pieces across the 402-room-and-suite project inventory.
Circular forms, detailed patterns and warm mineral tones created a contemporary connection to Romanian craft. Variations in colour, motif, orientation and grouping allowed the system to respond to different room and suite layouts while maintaining a recognisable identity throughout the hotel.

Variation within a coherent language
The ceramic works and their framing were produced by specialist partners to our designs. Conceptiones coordinated production and delivered the completed artwork package as final contractor.
The modular approach created repetition without monotony. Groupings could be adjusted to the proportions and furnishings of each room while remaining part of one recognisable hotel-wide programme.

Artwork integrated with the guestrooms
The artwork was developed in relation to the interior palette rather than applied as an afterthought. Warm ceramics, dark timber frames and turquoise accents give the compositions material presence while allowing them to sit comfortably within the rooms.
Close attention to scale, spacing and orientation helped the works remain legible as individual objects and as a coordinated group.

A programme adapted across room types
Different guestrooms and suites required the artwork system to adapt without losing its identity. The same family of motifs and framing principles continued across larger accommodation formats and changing wall conditions.
This combination of a clear concept and controlled variation made it possible to deliver artwork consistently at hotel scale.

Beyond the guestrooms
The wider scope included 24 large-format paintings and museum-quality art prints, approximately 100 × 100 cm and 100 × 150 cm, for other areas of the hotel. The paintings were acrylic on canvas, mounted on wooden stretcher frames.
Additional decorative art elements extended the programme into shared and private spaces. Not every work in this part of the project is represented in the available photography.

The artwork language continued beyond individual guestrooms into larger shared accommodation spaces.
